Dear Family and Friends,

On Sunday, August 20, 2006, new members of the Corps of Cadets will complete FROG Week with a traditional leadership run and graduation ceremony. The leadership run begins on campus at Owen Drill Field at 9:00 AM. Cadets will depart NGCSU campus and travel up Crown Mountain, then return to campus and the drill field. The new cadets will finish this very challenging 3-mile course at approximately 10:30 AM, with a graduation ceremony immediately following the completion of the run. Parents are welcome to participate in the run.

At this graduation ceremony, each cadet will be presented with the NGCSU crest as a symbol of successful completion of freshman training and full integration as a member of the Corps of Cadets. NGCSU Corps alumni will participate in the leadership run and assist in the presentation of the crests.

You are cordially invited to attend this ceremony then enjoy some free time with your son or daughter. The campus dining facility is preparing a lunch consisting of FROG legs in honor of the new cadets. Family members are welcome to join their cadet for this special lunch at a cost of $7.00 per person. After lunch, new cadets will be free to visit with their parents and travel in the local area (not to exceed 25 miles) without applying for special leave. Cadets must be back in the barracks by 5:00 PM.

In you can attend this ceremony, this would be a good opportunity for you to bring any remaining items needed by your son or daughter. Valuable or heavy items, such as computers, or refrigerators, should be brought to campus on Sunday after the training is over. Other convenience itmes that will not be needed during FROG Week can also be brought at this time.

In case of a family emergency during FROG Week, cadets can be contacted during the day through the Assistant Commandant's Office at (706) 864-1793/1795, and at night through the Cadet Staff Duty Officer at (706) 864-1420. Campus Public Safety can also be reached at (706) 864-1500, if needed.

Finally, for your convenience, a list of fall semester activities follows. In order for us to successfully accomplish these events, cadets must be present and execute their assigned duties. We ask that you schedule family events and activities around these closed weekends. Those events which may be of interest to parents are indicated with an asterisk (*).

we look forward to working with all of our new cadets this fall and meeting you at our ceremonies. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Assistant Commandant's Office at (706) 864-1793/1795.

Sincerely,

James T. Palmer
