U.S.
News & World Report
has
placed North Georgia College & State
University No. 13 in the top Public
Universities in the South of those
institutions providing a full range of
undergraduate and master's programs but
offering few, if any, doctoral programs
on the magazine’s “Premium Online
Edition” of America’s Best Colleges
2005. The only other Georgia
institutions in that listing are Georgia
College & State University, No. 18,
and Georgia Southern, No. 21.
“North
Georgia ranks higher than any other
school in the University System of
Georgia except the University of Georgia
and Georgia Tech,” said Linda Roberts-Betsch,
NGCSU interim vice president for
Academic Affairs. “We have maintained
this status for the past several years.” |

Thanks! -- Our
thanks to Joshua
Preston for his
article "North
Georgia College
salutes
student-soldiers" in
the Sept. 6 issue of
Forsyth Herald. The
great
accomplishments of
the students of
North Georgia are
not surprising
considering the
outstanding
credentials of this
distinct university.
North Georgia
incoming freshmen
have the highest
average SAT scores
and highest high
school grade point
averages of all
freshmen at all
senior colleges in
the University
System of Georgia.
North Georgia was
the first public
university in the
state to offer a
minor in leadership,
with
interdisciplinary
tracks in military
or citizen learning.
In addition, North
Georgia has the
highest graduation
rate of all senior
colleges in the
University of
Georgia System.
North Georgia was
the first military
college in the U.S.
to admit women and
the first public
college in Georgia
to graduate a woman
(Willie Lewis in
1878). North Georgia
is one of only six
senior military
colleges in the
nation along with
The Citadel, Norwich
University, Virginia
Tech, Virginia
Military Institute
and Texas A&M. We
are very lucky to
have a crown jewel
of the University
System of Georgia
right here in our
own backyard
educating the future
leaders of our
country.
Congratulations!
- Richard Kyle
Lee, son of Wilson
and Cheryl Lee of
Alpharetta,
graduated this
summer from North
Georgia College and
State University,
and received two
outstanding awards
upon admission into
the U.S. Army as a
2nd Lieutenant. Lee
received the Gen.
George Marshall and
the Gen. Douglas
MacArthur awards and
as Cadet Colonel,
had the highest rank
in the Corp of
Cadets, in charge of
all cadets during
the past year.
After graduating
from Milton High
School in 2002, Lee
received a full
4-year ROTC
scholarship to
attend the famous
military college,
earning his
Bachelors of Science
degree in Physical
Education with a
minor in Leadership.
He was a member of
Scabbard and Blade,
the national
military honor
society, and was
recognized as a
Distinguished
Military Graduate.
Lee was chosen by
the Army to go into
Aviation and will
start helicopter
pilot training in
February at Ft.
Rucker, Ala.
